Hi this is John Bongiorno with GOD TV, and welcome to God Today. There’s an amazing passage in the Bible, about a man who needed workers to work in his vineyard. It’s the harvest time, there is a sense of urgency to get the harvest in, and he is short of workers. So he goes to the marketplace to hire workers. Hires a group of workers. They go to work in the field. Shortly thereafter he goes back to the marketplace and he hires more workers. Then he goes back again and he hires more workers!
And I’m wondering, is this guy a poor planner, or what is happening here, why does this man keep returning to get more workers. Finally at the eleventh hour he hires more workers. Now you can imagine who would e left at the end of the day. These are workers that everyone has passed over, they’re day laborers, yet he goes back and he hires them, and they go work in the field. And for some reason or another, when it’s all done, he is so thankful, that when it’s time to pay the workers, they had all agreed to work for the same wages, one denarius, he pays the eleventh hour workers one denarius, a day’s wages! And then he pays the other workers what he agreed to, a day’s wage. And they began to grumble and complain.
And I thought what does this really mean?
You know those eleventh hour workers were so happy to get a job, they must have gone out there and did what they had to do. The early workers, they said “hey, maybe we can stretch this job out”. Maybe they formed some type of a labor union, we don’t really know all the details.
But those eleventh hour workers, worked in a way that touched this man’s heart. And you know there are a lot of people who have just come into the kingdom of God and they see people who have been in the faith, Christians for a long period of time. Can I tell you that God today, even if you just gave your heart to Jesus Christ, has a plan and purpose. He wants to use you. And you’re God’s workmanship, you were created to do good work. God prepared you to do these things. And He has a plan and a purpose for you and your life.
So I want you to know today, e encouraged that God has a plan, and no matter how long you’ve known Him, He wants to put you to work in His field, because the fields are ripe for harvest and there’s a lot of work for us to do.
So let’s pray, Father thank you, for each and every person Lord. You have a purpose and a plan for their life. And I pray the Lord that you will, today, speak into the hearts of people, and they might go to work in your field, tell others about Jesus Christ. Do something to help people who are hurting, those who are in need. We’re so thankful dear God, that you’re a God who rewards those who go to work for you. Father, may we be found working as your people. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
