Today I want to talk to you about the person of the Holy Spirit. The person of the Holy Spirit is not an “it”. It is actually a person. It is the third person of the trinity. God the Father, God the Son, but God the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit wants to rest on every believer. Isaiah 61 says this, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound. To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord and the day of vengeance of our God. To comfort all who mourn, to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. That He may be glorified.”
I was a young man and I was desiring to encounter the person of the Holy Spirit. I wanted to know the Holy Spirit. I was studying revival and I was a school of ministry student at the time. Bill Johnson, our senior leader at Bethel Church, he had just come back from Wales and he was talking about the Welsh revival. I was studying about revival, I was studying about the Welsh revival, and how God used a young man named Evan Roberts in 1904. I remember Bill wanting to pray for all of us students and I just stood on that line andI said, “Holy Spirit, I am hungry to encounter you.” You see, I didn’t move all the way across the country just to have theological training. I wanted to know the person of the Holy Spirit. I wanted to have an encounter of God so I could become an encounter to this world. I stood on that line and I said, “Holy Spirit, touch me.” I stood there for around 20 minutes and just waiting on God. Suddenly, I felt the electricity of Heaven. It was like I just stuck my hand into a livewire socket. I felt the fire of God come over me.
Then I began to see the vision. There was a vision of God using me and taking me all over the world. I saw Him using me in power and miracles, signs, and wonders. I believe that today many of you are desiring God to touch your life. You’ve been crying out for the Holy Spirit. I want to tell you. You can meet with the Holy Spirit. I want to encourage you right now. Go into your room. Shut the door and say, “Holy Spirit, come.” Just wait there. Say, “Holy Spirit, I want to hear your voice. I want to encounter you.” I am praying for you right now. Holy Spirit, I pray for right now that you would encounter them in such a powerful way. You are not an “it”, you are a person. I am asking that you would come in such a powerful way that you would encounter them. Lord, I pray for wave, after wave, after wave of your presence. Reveal to the the person of Jesus Christ. Lord, we pray for that, you point them to Jesus, may they fall in love with Jesus, may they represent Jesus to the world. By the power of your Spirit. In Jesus’ name.
