Just remember, you fell in love. You looked in each other’s eyes and asked God to put you into a covenant with Him.

Hello, I am Pastor Richard Summerlin of New Way Church in Palm Coast, Florida.  Welcome to God Today. I want to talk to you about a subject that is fun, interesting, and sometimes can be…um…marriage.

I have been married 23 years this year.  I will tell you, there have been sometimes that it didn’t seem really fun, but it has been rewarding.  I was going to say there is nothing greater than marriage. But, meeting my Lord and Savior, that was the greatest thing.  I don’t think you can do marriage without your Lord and Savior. In 23 years, you have been through a lot, you’ve gone through a lot, you have overcome a lot.

I want to tell you a couple things.  I want to tell you, first off, take the words “divorce” and “separation out of your vocabulary.  Pluck it out. Never use it. No matter what you’re going through, no matter how mean you feel. I know how it feels, you want to pay back, you want to hurt.  No. We don’t want to hurt each other. We love each other. We got married because we fell in love. We love each other, get those words out.

I want to tell you this.  Get God involved in every area of your marriage.  From the kitchen, to the bedroom, to the car, I don’t know where else you do life.  Whatever it is, God has got to be the center of your marriage. If not, it won’t work.  As long as God is there He is the stick, the glue that sticks it together, the help in time of need.  He is the hope when you feel hopeless. Don’t forget this: with God all things are possible to them that believe.  Take care of each other. Don’t ever turn your back on one another, not even for a moment. You figure out, once you are fighting and bickering, being knuckleheads (for lack of better terms).  Just remember, you fell in love. You looked in each other’s eyes and asked God to put you into a covenant with Him.

I believe, even if you are going through something tough today, it is just going to lighten today.  I am going to pray with you and over your marriages. Lord, I pray right now over every marriage. Maybe they are looking for a mate.  I pray, right now, the peace of God would come in that union, that covenant, and just yield freedom and happiness and a great harvest. In Jesus’ name, we come against satan that would try to ruin or wreck anything.  In Jesus’ name. I call you blessed and free and happy. Amen.
