Be careful that anything - nothing - becomes an idol in your life. Nothing takes the place of God.

Hi, I am Pastor Craig Walker.  I am the Lead Pastor of Upward Church and christian author.  I want to welcome you to God Today.

I want to pray for you today, that God will keep you protected and blessed, and in the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.  I want to ask you to go to the Word of God with me today. Everyday we need to go to the Word of God. We need that bread of Heaven feeding our souls.

The scripture I would like for us to look at today is found in 1 John 5:21.  It says this, “Dear Children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.”  Anything. Think about that. Anything. Often it is the little things that become big things on our life.  Bigger than they are supposed to be. I love the tenderness of the scripture. It says, “Dear Children.” As a father talking to His children, God is speaking to us today.  He is saying, “Listen. Be careful, dear children. Be careful that anything – nothing – becomes an idol in your life. Nothing takes the place of God. God keeps that preeminent spot as number one in your life.

As we go forth in this day, today, can we go back to the Father and say, “Father, be number one in my life.  I want you to be first in my life.” When we pray that prayer, He is faithful to reveal to us those things. The best deceiver you will ever face is the one who stares at you in the mirror.  Always before you and biased to you. The Holy Spirit knows our hearts and He can keep us in a pleasing lifestyle that pleases the Lord.

I want to pray for us today.  Father, I thank you for the Holy Spirit that reveals our hearts.  Your Word says that only God knows our hearts. We open ourselves up to the Holy Spirit right now and say, “Holy Spirit, reveal our hearts.  See if there is anything that has put itself ahead of you. If there is Lord, we represent. We ask you to take the preeminent, the Kingship, the Lordship role in our hearts today.  In Jesus’ name. Amen. I am Pastor Craig Walker and that is God Today.
