You know what I wanted? I wanted, at the end of the day, to hear, 'Well done, good and faithful servant.'

Good morning!  My name is Wesley Zinn from Wellspring Church in Connecticut in the United States.  I welcome you this morning to God Today. I want to share with you a story. I am a pastor.  But, I haven’t always been a pastor, I used to be in business. One time, I had this huge project I was responsible for, for a major corporation.  I would go to bed every night, further behind than I would be every morning. I would get up the next morning and say, “How am I going to do this?”

Because I had no other choice, I started to pray more.  As I began to pray, I thought, “What am I going to pray for?” I could pray for the project to be successful.  I could pray for help. But, as I started to walk my neighborhood and pray every morning before I went to work, I started to think, “What do I really want?”  You know what I wanted? I wanted, at the end of the day, to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Maybe some of you are like that.  You think, “By the end of the day I am going to be further behind than I was when I started.”  You are waking up this morning and you are thinking, “How in the world am I going to get everything done? God help me.”  But, really how are you going to be able to sleep tonight? It’s when you know the Lord can tell you, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”  It’s a scripture verse we want to hear for ourselves. Not just at the end of time, but each and every day.

As I prayed that each and everyday of my project, I thought, “How am I going to hear that?  Am I going to hear that if I get the project done? If I solve this problem or fix that problem?”  No. God knew, and I knew what I needed to do. What I needed to do was treat people with respect. What I needed to do was operate in integrity, even if someone around me was saying, “Here’s a shortcut that will get this project done better.”

I knew how I needed to treat people.  I needed to honor them, I needed to love them. Even though I am in business, even though I am making business deals, I needed to treat people the way God would have me treat them.  That was what was going to make the difference. I would pray every morning, “God, I want to hear when I go to bed, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.’” If I am behind, if my project succeeds, if it fails, it doesn’t matter.  What is going to matter in my spirit, what is going to matter for me to lay my head down on that pillow and be able to rest is when I hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

I know that is what you want to hear.  I know that our Father in Heaven wants to give that to you today.  Would you pray, today? God, show me how to live so you can say that to me.  So I can hear that tonight. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” I want to hear that because I want to believe the Father is saying that over me.  He is a good Father. He wants to bless you. Think about how you can live today. Think about how you can receive the Holy Spirit afresh today so you will treat the people around you with respect.  With dignity. You will operate with integrity. You won’t look for the shortcuts. You will believe God wants to bless you with being the kind of person that will affect not only you, but those around you.

I encourage you today.  Live today so you can go to bed tonight hearing from the Father, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”  Have a great day – may the Lord bless you.
