Christmas time is a very exciting and enjoyable time for so many as they reflect on the wonderment of Jesus coming into the world to save us from our sin. Just a remembrance of the faithfulness of God and a time to spend with family and friends. Yet, for others, this holiday season can be a very discouraging, depressing time for many. People who feel lonely, people who lack family, people who have been in crisis and don’t know the goodness of the Lord. Those who have never heard the Gospel – this season will mean something different to them.
I want to encourage you to reach out in this season. Reach out with the love of God. Even the smallest effort that you take – maybe it could be smile, or a little gift to a neighbor, something like that – something so small can have such a big impact. I want to read to you out of Isaiah 9. It says in verse 6, “For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us. The government will rest upon His shoulders. His name will be called wonderful counselor, mighty God, eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace on the throne of David and over His Kingdom to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness. From then on and forever more, the zeal of the Lord of Hosts will accomplish this.”
What I want to bring to your attention there, is that we see this massive weight of authority. This greatness that is on Jesus Christ explained to us in this portion. But, where did it start? It started just with a little baby. It started with a humble servant that was willing to say “yes” to God, to have the Holy Spirit overshadow her that she could begin to carry Christ within. When He was born, He wasn’t born as this great, massive, visible light. He was just this little baby. He was born in a manger and he was wrapped in swaddling clothes – which is rags. He was very obscure. Very small. What I want to draw to your attention there, is that sometimes we overlook the greatness that is in the small. Sometimes we think, “I want to get the people I love a great big gift.” But we only have the means to get something small. Or it might be, “I really want to make a big impact in my neighborhood.” And we end up only making a small gesture, maybe taking some candy over to a neighbor to encourage them. Just in our mind we think it is so small and insignificant. The Lord wants you to know there is greatness in your small. Even as His own Son came into the Earth so small, so insignificant, yet inside of Him He carried greatness.
I want to encourage you during this season as you look for ways to reach out that every card and every note that you write, as small as it might seem, realize the potential it has to have great impact. No matter what gesture, you step out and do to help maybe the poor, or the needy, or the oppressed, or the sad, even if it is a small little gesture, small as a smile, you will know that God can turn that small gift of a smile or that small gift of a little act of kindness, He can turn it into something great.
That’s what this season is all about. It is remembering God’s goodness and how He brought His son into the world as a little baby. But, that little baby had within it, the destiny call to transform the whole world for all eternity and everyone in it. God wants you to know that that life, that beautiful life lives inside of you. You have significance because of that. For God TV, with great love for all of you, we do wish you the very best of the season, and believe that God is going to pour out His goodness upon you and those you love. He is good and He is committed to you. He is blessed, blessed with this opportunity to pour out upon you and yours. Merry Christmas, God bless.
