It was being faithful in that little thing that gave me the favor up the chain to continue to move up quickly...

Welcome to God Today.  I am Steve Reiter with Right Turn Media and The Eternal Leadership Podcast.  I moved to Colorado Springs – I grew up in Wisconsin – shortly after I graduated school.  I got an entry-level job at Focus On The Family. But, I was working my butt off to try and get my college debt paid off.  I took a number of freelance jobs, and side jobs, and part-time jobs in order to try and get that done as quickly as possible.

I had a really well-paying freelance job with a media company in Colorado Springs, that I would work as soon as I was done at Focus On The Family, I would go over and work on some of the shows they had for the radio stations that they sent shows too.  Towards the end of my time there, I had just paid off all my college debt, I had just bought a new truck. Right around that time, I was getting ready to head to Europe and I was wrapping up my time at that organization. They were putting one of their soundboards that were in the studios, up for sale.  The had one soundboard more than what they needed. It had been sitting in one of the studios and hadn’t been used for months and months. In the sale ad it said, “It had only been used 3 hours.” Well, I knew full well that it had been used way more than 3 hours. I couldn’t let it sit, I needed to say something.

I went to my boss at Focus On The Family.  I said, “Pray for me, man. I am going to confront this person.  I know it is not going to be pretty, I am going to lose this job, but pray for me.”  I went, I confronted him and it did not go down well. I literally saw this blackish haze come over him.  He lit into me and fired me on the spot and justified it. I walked out of there saying, “I know I am doing something right, but now I am out of this money I am making here.”

Literally, 2 days later, my boss’s boss had me go take him to pick up his car.  On that drive, he told me, “Steve, I heard about what you did over there. Words can’t describe how proud I am to you.”  It was being faithful in that little thing that gave me the favor up the chain to continue to move up quickly at Focus On The Family.  I eventually came Dr. Dobson’s Chief Audio Engineer. Any time he travelled, I was usually the one to go with him. I got to spend time with him on levels that – very few people outside of friends – really did.  That was one of those what I call “integrity checks”. You are faithful in this little thing and it helps to bump you up the trail.

I am reminded in Luke 16:10-12, in the Message, Jesus went on to make these comments, “If you are honest in the small things, you will be honest in the big things.  If you are a crook in the small things, you will be a crook in the big things. If you are not honest in small jobs, who will put you in charge of the store?” I want to encourage you right now, that right now you may be going through some stuff and you need to make sure you are honest in those small things.  God likely has a promotion for you in this next season. So, stay faithful, be strong, thanks for watching god Today on God TV. My name is Steve Reiter with Right Turn Media and The Eternal Leadership Podcast. Be awesome.
