'Nevers' and 'buts' - are hindrances to hearing God’s voice. You have to get [them] out of the way in order to hear God’s voice clearly.

This is Greg Mohr from Charis Bible College in Woodland Park, CO.  Welcome to God Today. I want to talk to you about something that is really dear to my heart today.  You can hear God’s voice accurately. John 10:27 says, “My sheep, hear my voice.” John 10:4 says, “My sheep, know my voice.”  You can hear God voice accurately. If you are His sheep, if you are born again you are His sheep. You can hear His voice.

There are two important things / keys that I have discovered that help you to hear His voice accurately.  First of all, Hebrews 3:7, 3:15, 4:7, each one of them repeats the same thing. “Today, if you’ll hear my voice, harden not your hearts.”  Three times it says that. How is it that we harden our hearts? If we harden our hearts we cannot hear His voice accurately. It is because when we have these things in our lives where, “Lord, I will do anything…but,”  or, “I will never do that. I will do anything but this…I will never get married again…I will never pastor again…I will never go into ministry…I will never start a business again…I will never love again.” All of these things – these “nevers” and “buts” – are hindrances to hearing God’s voice.  You have to get your “buts” out of the way in order to hear God’s voice clearly.

It says in Romans 12 that He wants us to become a living sacrifice.  That means, “Lord, I am all in. I will do whatever you ask me to do.”  That is the beginning of hearing God’s voice clearly. Secondly, if you want to hear God’s voice clearly, you can’t put more significance on the supernatural way that God speaks, such as a vision, or a dream, or a prophetic word, or an angel appearing to you, or something like that – more than the clear, inward voice of God.  Thats still, small voice of God, that Word of God that you read. Too many times we are wanting God to speak to us in a spectacular way and we miss Him through those strong desires He has put in our hearts. You and I can hear His voice, but we have to remove the buts” and the “nevers” out of our lives. We also have to stop placing a greater value on the spectacular way that He might speak.  That is really, to be honest, that is the minority, not the majority.

I want to pray for you today, that you hear God’s voice clearly, that if there are any “buts” or “nevers” in your life – remove those.  Say, “Lord, I am all in. You can speak to me in any way you choose, but I am going to value your word above any spectacular way that you might lead.”  Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray for every person watching. Lord, they are your sheep. They can hear your voice. Sensitize them to your voice. Help them to be all in, Father. Prioritize your word above every other voice in Jesus’ name.  This is Greg Mohr and this has been God Today.
