The greatest area of discipline that we need to master is how we think.

Hi, I am Joseph Mattera of Mattera Ministries International and welcome to God Today.  Today what I want to speak to you about is correct thinking. You know, oftentimes as Christians, we think all we have to do is go to church, or read a Bible, or even sing a song of worship once in a while and that takes care of everything.  The Bible actually tells us to live a disciplined life. That is why believers originally were called disciples. The word disciple means to be disciplined. The greatest area of discipline that we need to master is how we think.

Often times, we are sabotaged, not even by the devil, but by “stinking thinking”.  We live in anxiety, we live in fear, we live in negativity. We wind up failing in certain areas of our life that God has called us to succeed in.  In the book of Philippians, Paul the apostle tells us in 4:6 not to be anxious. He tells us to pray, he tells us by praying and giving the burden to God, the peace of God will be with us.  Often times, a lot of people stop there. They talk about prayer, but they forget that we put chapters and verses in the Bible, so connected to that as one flowing letter, without any chapter, without any verse, He also said, “Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of a good report, and if there is any excellence or anything worthy of praise, think on these things.”

We have to keep our mind focused on positive things, on the good things that God is doing, on the honest, and the pure, and the things of a good report.  If we focus our life on negative things, even if we just prayed for two hours, even if we are always in Church – if we put our mind on things that discourage us, that can sabotage our faith.  That can suck the faith oxygen out of our life and stop us from doing what God has called us to do. Today, why don’t we make up our minds to think about what is lovely, think about what is true, think about what is of a good report.  Understand that as we do that, a lot of anxiety and fear will leave. By the power of God’s grace and the Holy Spirit, we can do all things through Christ, that He has called us to do. He is the one who will give us strength if we keep our minds on Him.  This is Joseph Mattera with God Today.
