Don’t be that child that is distracted playing ball and laughing, and thinking that you're having a good time.  Seek God first, go to Him.

TRANSCRIPTION

Hello, I am Jim Leamon, a friend of GOD TV and welcome to God Today.  Today I want to share with you a scripture that really resonates.  It is a family verse for me and my wife and we have held it close to our hearts for years and years.  It is Matthew 6:33, it is a well-known scripture but pertinent for us all.  It is, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you.”

You know, as I was praying and knew I was going to bring this piece, I felt like the Lord spoke to me through a dream.  I saw a lot of kids and they were playing.  And they were playing ball.  And Jesus walked out onto the field and one of the little boys threw his ball down and ran over to Jesus and grabbed Him around the waist like a little small child would grab their father.  And Jesus began to lovingly caress the head of that child.  All of the other kids were still paying and balls were being thrown around.  They were laughing, they were playing, but that kid was there in fellowship with Jesus. I think we have this open invitation to seek first the Kingdom of God.

Another scripture that I think is applicable here is – you have heard about the parable of the sower in Matthew 13, just a couple of chapters over.  One of the many ways that the seed was unfruitful was the thorns.  You’ll remember the thorns.  The thorns, the Bible says, in Matthew 13:22, “He who receives seed among the thorns is he who hears the Word and the cares of this world and the deceit of riches choke out the Word and it becomes unprofitable.”

So my question for you today is, “What are you seeking?” Because really, when we seek the Lord first, I once heard a quote that said, “When we attach our dreams to God’s dreams, our dreams become fulfilled.  When we seek Him first, really He gives us everything we need.

I will never target one of the times my wife and I moved from Florida back to Tennessee.  We bought a home in a golf community and one day I was standing on the 18th hole tee box, looking back towards the clubhouse.  It was really the first time I had been at that perspective in the two years that we had lived there.  I realized I had been there before.  And looking at the back of my house, and seeing it from that perspective, and that angle, and that specific location, I realized, and I went back in time, to where probably 10 years before, as a young man, a young professional, just beginning my career.  I had been on that exact golf course, in that exact spot playing a round of golf with some of my fellow employees.  And I had asked one of the other people I was with, “What do these people do to be able to live in these homes in these nice neighborhoods?” I couldn’t imagine, at that point in my life, of even living there.  And now, fast forward 10 years later, and I was in the very house that I had looked over when I had wondered those thoughts that had gone across my mind.

God wants us to seek Him first.  When we do that, He will reward us and He will give us the desires of our hearts.  I want to ask you today, don’t be that child that is distracted playing ball and laughing, and thinking that you’re having a good time.  Seek God first, go to Him.  He wants you to love Him but more importantly, He wants to love on you today.  Thank you.
