Hi, I’m Chantell Cooley, co-founder of Columbia Southern Universities and Chantell Cooley Ministries.  Welcome to God Today. Today I want to talk to you about knowing who you are in God. This is such an important thing. I have worked in the marketplace for over 30 years. I tell you one thing the enemy will try and take from you is your identity and who you are, and your confidence. Knowing who you are is very important as you move forward in life.

I love the story of David. I want to talk about how Jesse sent David out into the land to check on his brothers. They were great warriors in the Israelite army. As David got out there, he is a young man, he is finding his brothers.  He is realizing there is a lot of chaos going on. You got the Philistine Army on one side, you have got this giant taunting things to the Israelites saying, “Hey! Come fight me!”  There is a lot of chaos. David finds his brothers and says, “Hey! What’s going on?” His brothers weren’t very nice. They said, “What are you doing here? You don’t belong here. You’re not good enough. Go back home, go back to where you are tending the sheep.”

Do you know something powerful that I noticed?  David didn’t care what they said. He had so much confidence in who he was, he just went about the Father’s business.  He was focused on what was going on and if he needed to insert himself in the situation. As he moved forward, he eventually found Saul under his tent.

You can read this in 2 Samuel 17, about how he found Saul.  He began to tell him, “Hey, I can defeat Goliath. I am young, but let me tell you.  I killed the bear and the lion. I have focused. I have God on my side.” So Saul, after an amount of time, he thought, “Well, okay.”  I’m sure he didn’t’ think he could do it, but he said, “Sure.” Now, Saul said, “I am going to put my armor on you. Here you go, I don’t want you to die.”  But obviously there was a big age and size difference here. The Bible says that Saul is a big man. Of course, David is just a young boy, probably not even fully developed.  He puts that armor on and realizes, “This isn’t going to work.” He tried to walk in it and he said, “I can’t do this. I am not used to this armor.” He politely took it off and said, “Sir, here it is.  Now I’ve got to do it my way which is God’s way.”

Sometimes you have to just take who you are in your identity, not letting others put their identity on you.  You say, “I know what you need to be done. You need Goliath defeated. But, I can do it my way.” Of course, what did he do?  He went out there, picked those stones up and threw one and killed Goliath. The rest is yesterday. He made an impact because he knew who he was in God.  How did he do that? He began to get into the Word and study. He practiced that slingshot which was his talent – all those years tending those sheep. I tell you what, those small times you are growing and moving forward in God, that’s getting you ready to defeat your Goliath.  He is going to move you forward in such a powerful way.

I want to pray for you today.  Father, in the name of Jesus, I speak blessings over men and women who are ready to defeat their Goliath.  They need more Word in you. Father, I thank you they take the Word, they have the mind of Christ. I break every assignment assigned against them that holds them back from what they need to do.  That you would dream big and go after the visions God has called you to do. I release success upon you, you will never be the same again today. In Jesus’ name. Amen. I am Chantell Cooley and this is God Today.
