Because the value of a masterpiece is in the artist that created it. And the artist that created you is Christ Jesus. That is what makes you a masterpiece.

Hi, I am Holly Christine Hayes, founder, and CEO of Sanctuary Project. Welcome to God Today. There is someone, today, who needs to hear this. You are a masterpiece. Okay, I know you might not feel like a masterpiece today. I know, if you are anything like me, there have definitely been seasons and times in life where you feel far from a masterpiece But Ephesians 2:10 says, “You are God’s masterpiece. Created in Christ Jesus for the good works He prepared in advance for us to do.”

What I love about that…if you have ever visited any of the great museums of the world, you have probably stood up close to a masterpiece. And when you look up close, when you are right up in front of the masterpiece, you might notice something. Masterpieces are messy. They are swirls of paint, and clumps, and all these messy bits, sort of swirled together. But when you sand back, you actually see this beautiful picture. And yet, up close, masterpieces are messy. And so, if your life feels messy, sometimes it can feel like you are not a masterpiece. But God says “no. You are my masterpiece.”

One of the other things I absolutely love about masterpieces is that they take time to create. A great masterpiece, a great work of art is not created overnight. Our lives, as followers of Christ, are a journey. There are going to moments that feel messier than others, but ultimately, what God is doing in your life is crafting this beautiful masterpiece out of it.

My other favorite thing about masterpieces is that great works of art, great masterpieces change the world. The world has never been the same after Picasso started painting the way he did. The world has never been the same after Jackson Pollack grabbed a canvas and threw paint on it and called it “modern art”. Great masterpieces were meant to change the world. And that is you.

I love that this scripture doesn’t just stop by saying, “You are God’s masterpiece.” It actually says, “You are God’s masterpiece created in Christ Jesus.” One of the things I love about masterpieces too is that there are so many copies out there. Someone can’t counterfeit a masterpiece. They can paint it exactly like Van Gogh’s sunflowers. But the value will never be there. Because the value of a masterpiece is in the artist that created it. And the artist that created you is Christ Jesus. That is what makes you a masterpiece. The one who painted you.

God doesn’t stop there. In Ephesians 2:10, when He says, “We are His masterpiece created in Him.” He says “We were created for good works He prepared for us to do.” God has a plan for your life. To take every messy bit, every bit He has taken that time on, everything He made that was meant to change the world. And use it for His good and perfect purposes. To accomplish more than we could ever ask or imagine in and through you.

And so, I want to pray for you today. For those of you out there who may not feel like a masterpiece, would God’s hand just fall on you at this moment and remind you who your creator is. Remind you who the artist is. And that you don’t have to be a masterpiece. He is the one who crafted you. And for those of you who are wondering what that good works He has prepared in advance for you to do, I just pray that you would lean into that one who created you. Look at the masterpiece He has created with your life. And ask the Lord to use it for His good, and His glory, and His Kingdom. In Jesus’ name.
