I believe that the voice of God in my life and in your life and in the life of every believer is the X factor that allows us to thrive no matter what season we're going through and no matter what circumstance we're facing.

Hi, my name is Tim Specht. I am the Youth and Outreach Pastor at Bethel Austin and this is God Today. I want to talk to you about the power of the voice of God. In Psalm 29:8, David writes about the voice of God and how it has this characteristic of literally shaking the wilderness and making dry places dry no more. I believe that the voice of God in my life and in your life and in the life of every believer is the X factor that allows us to thrive no matter what season we’re going through and no matter what circumstance we’re facing.

Jesus Himself is our model. He displayed this in His own life on a consistent basis. Throughout the Gospels we see Jesus getting up early in the morning, leaving before the sun came up and before anyone else was up, and He would go out to spend time in prayer. He also said when facing temptation in the desert, that man does not live on bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. He also says in John chapter 12 that He did not say any word that the Father did not already first speak to Him.

So Jesus displays this lifestyle of living by the voice of God. There are many different avenues through which we can access the voice of God. We can access His voice through His written Word, the Holy Bible; through the ministry of the prophetic and prayer ministry, from us to God and from others to ourselves; and even just in nature and hearing God’s voice in dynamic ways. One thing about the voice of God is when we do practice hearing it, it must line up with Scripture. We must discern that.

Around five years ago, I had a powerful experience with God’s voice that dynamically changed the way I interact with Him and still encourages me to this day. I was living in Redding, California, and I was on my way to work at a Mexican restaurant that I was employed at. I was there in my little Honda Accord on the way to work and for some reason, I had this idea to ask God how He was doing that day. Out loud in my car, I spoke out and I said, “God, how are You doing today?” What I heard back startled me. What I heard God say was, “Tim, I am doing amazing.” I was shocked. I’m like, what? I’m hearing God speak back to me. And He’s telling me He’s doing amazing. I had never done this before.

Then I had the bright idea to ask God, “God, why are You doing amazing?” Again, out loud in my car, I said, “God, why are You doing amazing today?” I heard Him reply back to me and He said, “Tim, I’m doing amazing because I get to live inside of you today.” This rocked my world because I wasn’t doing anything overtly spiritual. I was on my way to work. I believe this is where the X factor in our lives with God’s voice comes in. He’s a Father who wants to speak to you no matter if you’re raising your kids, if you’re on your way to work, if you’re about to go clock in at your job, if you’re a businessman, if you’re a stock trader, no matter what it is you’re doing, His voice is always available to you.

I want to pray with you to close out this segment and bless you. Lord Jesus, I thank You for every viewer. I bless them with Your voice right now. I bless them to have dialogue with You today that would be powerful and dynamic and life-changing, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
