My name is Kate Muguira from the GOD TV team and I want to welcome you to the God Today program. I want to appreciate the GOD TV leadership team for providing this to the body of Christ – leaders from all around the world with three- to five-minute videos of teaching every single day. Thank you GOD TV.
I want to talk about four things we can do when we feel like we don’t hear God speaking, and I want to make it practical for you. If you’re feeling like you’re having a hard time hearing God’s voice, here’s the first thing you can do. The first thing is simple – open up the Word of God. Throughout the Bible you see God speaking throughout it. It’s His words. First, we take it to the foundation. The Word of God should be not only the foundation for our life but our foundation in our relationship with Him. So open it up. If you have it on the shelf and it’s getting dusty, take it off the shelf, dust it off, and open up the Word of God. The Word of God brings life.
The second thing that you want to do is He might be inviting you to discover Him in a different way. He might be inviting you to experience Him, to experience His presence, and to hear His voice differently. So for example, maybe the way that you hear God is you listen to worship music and you sit on your couch and you listen.
Well, maybe He’s actually inviting you to step out and pray for somebody. Through praying for somebody, He’s going to give you the words to speak for them and you’re going to hear His voice. Maybe it actually looks like resting, going out into nature, and taking a walk with the Lord. That’s actually something that He’s invited me to do recently, to get up in the morning and to go on a walk with Him. There are some times where He’s just wanting us to pivot and say, “God, what are You doing in my life right now? What are You wanting to show me?”
The third one that I want to talk to you about is, here it is. Are you ready? What is the last thing that He spoke to you? Sometimes we hear what He says and we don’t obey, or we don’t actually listen. He keeps speaking the same thing and we’re like, “God, I don’t hear You,” but it’s that we’re not listening. Sometimes we can feel like we’re waiting on the Lord, but actually, He’s waiting on you. So go back to the last thing that He spoke to you and do it.
The fourth thing that I want to talk about is getting intentional, getting quiet, and listening. Because when we’re like, “I don’t hear You. I don’t hear You. I don’t hear You. I don’t hear You. What are You saying? What are You doing? How do I do this? What’s the answer to this? Should I do this? Should I do that?” and just telling God all your thoughts and what you’re thinking. He loves that – He loves relationship with you – but He’s also speaking to you.
If we’re constantly talking, we’re not listening. I want to encourage you to take some time and just get quiet. As I said, it can be on a walk with the Lord. It can be sitting on your couch. It can be in your room. It can be in your car. It can be in your shower. It can be wherever you are, because God is Emmanuel, God with us. If we received Jesus, we received the Holy Spirit living on the inside of us, Who is constantly with us and speaking. I want to encourage you – get intentional, get quiet.
So the four things: read your Bible, open it up, dust it off. And then the second, He might be inviting you to discover Him in a different way. The third is what is the last thing He’s taught you? And the fourth is to get intentional and get quiet with Him. Here’s the thing, we see in the Bible in James 4:8, which tells us to draw near to God and He is going to draw near to us. That is the promise in the Word of God. When we get intentional with God, He shows up. He does not forsake you or leave you.
I want to encourage you with that today, whatever it is that you’re getting intentional with the Lord, He will meet you there. I want to pray for you. Father, I lift up anybody watching right now. If they want to seek Your face, if they want to hear Your voice, Father, I just pray right now that You open up their ears to hear what You are speaking, open up their eyes to see what You are doing in their life Father. Show them where You are, Father. I pray a blessing over them today. Lord, I pray right now that as they are watching, they feel Your presence and they hear Your voice, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
