Hi there. My name is Lauren Shields with the God TV team, and I want to welcome you to God Today. Today, I’m going to be talking to you from Exodus 20 and it’s verse 23, and it says, “Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.” Now that can seem really obvious because in this context, we’re seeing it from whenever the captors from Egypt were coming in and Moses was with God, but these people needed something. So, they made something. And so we may not create this physical thing to bow down and worship, but this is actually something really sneaky that we can find creeping into our lives.
It could be so many different things that we make idols out of. And a great example of that I feel like is one that I have a personal revelation from. So, not too long ago, I had been struggling with my finances and I was trying to get another job, because I had the time, because I could, because it just felt like what I needed to do. It felt like I needed something. So I may as well make away for myself. And so it became this obsession of like, okay, I’m going to do this. When in reality, that actually wasn’t what was for me, that wasn’t what I needed in the season. And so finally, I remember coming to this revelation of, I am putting this before You Lord, and I am seeking out this fix for my life rather than seeking You and Your face over what You have for me in this season. And let me tell you, once I laid that thing down and I didn’t, I never pursued the job any longer, and I just laid it down and decided to seek His face instead, man, the freedom and the rest of that, that came flooding in after, along with so many other things and just the provision of the Father, I have no words.
And so, I just want to encourage you today. If you feel like you are putting something before God, just to lay it down. That could look like your kids, that could look like finances, that could look like a family member or dream job, whatever it may be that you feel like is in your heart, before our Father, I just want to encourage you to look at Him and repent, and just invite Him to come and fill that space and that need.
And so Lord, we just ask You to come and just reveal to us the desires of Your heart and make them our desires, and fill any space that we have created an idol rather than letting You be the center of our hearts. And we just thank You for Your peace and we thank You for Your provision. And we just give you this day. And every day after that, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
