So here's the reality: You can know God's will. It tells us right here in this passage...

Hi, I’m David McClure. Welcome to God Today. Today I want to just share with you something out of 1 Thessalonians 5 about God’s will for you. We often struggle as believers about how do I understand God’s will for my life? Will I ever understand God’s will for my life? And in this passage, it is so simple. It just breaks it down into three distinct pieces of God’s will for your life that we need to know as believers, and it makes it very simple.

The first one is this in verse 16, “Rejoice, always.” Paul tells us in this scripture, one of the keys to knowing God’s will for your life is to rejoice always that you’re always happy. And I’m always reminded that song, ‘Don’t worry. Be happy.’ That crazy song that we had a few years ago that was so popular. That is true on some levels, but rejoicing releases faith, and it causes us to live beyond our circumstances into the true reality of walking with Him and walking with God in purity and fire and passion. The second one is, “pray continually.” How often do we rely on the internet and how frustrated do we get when our internet is not working? Because we find ourselves frustrated, we can’t do what we want to do. We can’t see what we want to see, and it should be like that with prayer. We should continually to be praying. We should continually be conversing with the Lord, walking with Him, hearing Him waiting on Him. And there’s a wonderful passage in Jeremiah 33:3 that I love. It says, “Call upon me and I will show you great and mighty things that you do not know, and that you could not figure out for yourself.” That’s a truth. And that’s how prayer works, is that we continually call upon Him and He shows us great things that we would not otherwise know. And the third one is this: “Be thankful in all circumstances.” We’re encouraged in this passage, be thankful. Thanksgiving will give us the ability to actually release our heart, to not believe that we’ve done these things ourselves, but we’re thankful that God has achieved these things in our lives. And that passage simply says after all of these three things it says, “for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

So here’s the reality: You can know God’s will, it tells us right here in this passage. These are the three things that we, as believers, can know are God’s will for our life. And if we’re walking into those three things, I can assure you, God is going to be powerfully using you. God is going to be powerfully impacting you, and God is going to be powerfully inhabiting your daily life for Him.

Let’s pray. Father, in the Name of Jesus, I want to thank You today that God, knowing Your will is a simple thing. We can continually rejoice. We can pray continually, and we can be thankful for what You’re doing in our lives. And I want to thank You for Your scriptures and for the words You’ve given us that we can live in, we can recite and understand and have fellowship with You through. Father, I pray today that God, You would empower us to be more thankful, Father, to walk with you in power and in prayer and to rejoice always in all things. Father, I bless Your people today and I thank You for great and mighty things that You’re showing us, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
