Hello, my name is Fergus Scarfe, and welcome to God Today. I’ve had the privilege of being a follower of Jesus for over 30 years. It hasn’t all been fun, it hasn’t all been easy, but I’d like to give testimony. I’d like to testify today as to a truth that has been proven real in my life. And that as the God Today family, before we go out on the things of our day, before we tackle the world and try and address our inbox, distracted by social media, or struggle in the things of our day; there is a truth that if we’ll bolster it in our hearts, if we’ll make it so in our lives, if we’ll pay attention to this, then some of the other stuff starts to fade away.

What’s the testimony? Simply this: He, the Lord God, the Maker of heaven and earth, our Father Almighty promised never to leave us or forsake us. Never, never, never. There’s a wonderful passage in the Amplified translation of Hebrews chapter 13. And it says the following, little word study here at the bottom, it says, three negatives proceed the verb. We miss it unless we read it in this way. Verse five, “Let your character or moral disposition be free from the love of money, including greed, avarice, lust, craving for personal possessions, and be satisfied with your present circumstances and what you have; for He, God himself has said, ‘I will not in any way fail you, or give you up, or leave you without support.'” Here you go: “I will not.”  “I will not.”  “I will not in any degree, leave you helpless, nor forsake, nor let you down, relax my hold upon you. Assuredly not.” He will never leave us, but it doesn’t finish there. Verse six: “So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently and boldly say, ‘The Lord is my helper. I will not be seized with alarm. I will not fear, or dread, or be terrified. What can man do to me?'”

If we’ll take that as a word from heaven today, Hebrews 13:5-6. If we’ll keep our lives from that hunger, from that greed, from that need to have, knowing that He promised always to be with us, always to be by our side, always to be there on the good days and not so good days, and taking comfort and encouragement. We learn to boldly declare “The Lord is my helper. I’ll not be afraid. What can man do to me?” Our lives will walk in a whole new dimension. We will sense that we are never alone, that there is an abiding presence that remains with us always. And gaining confidence in our heavenly Father, and knowing, and indeed giving Him place in each one of our lives, will give us the confidence to stare down the world. To stare down the circumstances of our lives, which aren’t always pretty, and know as a core truth, as the truest of true truths: That if He be for us, who can be against us? The One that promised, I will never, never, never leave you helpless, is always by our side.
