...I want to encourage you today, if you're feeling burnt out, if you feel dead inside, if you need refreshing in your life, I want to encourage you to dream.

Hi, I’m Tim Specht and I am the youth pastor and outreach pastor at Bethel Austin. Welcome to God Today. Today, I want to speak to you about the importance of dreaming and developing vision in your life. Your health and the health of every person that’s ever been born is one of the most important things about who you are. It’s also one of the most unpredictable things about you and I, and any person alive on the planet. The Bible says that life is but a vapor, meaning that it’s here one day and it’s gone the next. What’s interesting though, is that in our cultures and in our societies, we have entire economic systems built around the importance of health. Every human being realizes that health is important and that we must steward it well. I want to talk to you about an aspect about health that is overlooked by all the world’s systems, and that aspect of health is your dreams.

In Psalm 126:1, it says that “When the LORD brought back the captive ones from Zion, they were like those who dreamed.” That statement at the tail end of that verse that says “they were like those who dreamed,” in Hebrew it can be translated as ‘halom.” One of the translations for this word, ‘halom,’ is ‘to be brought back to health or be restored to health.’ This is dynamic and really amazing, because if that is the case, then another way to read Psalm 126:1 is, “When the LORD brought back the captive ones from Zion, they were like those restored to health.” This is crazy, because dreaming is in direct correlation to your health.

We do a really good job of stepping on scales and checking our weight. We do a really good job of going to the doctor and getting your physical exam or exercising or checking your diet. But one of the main things we overlook is, am I dreaming? Am I developing vision in my life? Helen Keller, who is a very famous person, she was the first deaf and blind person to ever get a bachelor’s degree. She said, “The only thing worse than being blind is having sight without having vision.” That is a powerful statement, because many of us have sight. We’re able to see the beauty of the world around us, but we have no internal vision. And this is in direct correlation to your health. And so I want to encourage you today, if you’re feeling burnt out, if you feel dead inside, if you need refreshing in your life, I want to encourage you to dream. And I believe that God is going to restore not only dreams in the night for you, but also your ability to dream for yourself personally, to dream for your family, and to also dream for the world around you.

And so I’m going to pray for you right now, that God would restore this ability to dream and that any dreams that you have laid down would actually be picked up again. So Lord Jesus, I thank you for every person viewing this. I thank you for the ability to dream, that you’ve made us as people to dream, and we declare freedom over every viewer to dream big and to dream bold again, in the Name of Jesus, Amen.
