The voice of God is powerful. In Psalm 29:8 it says, 'The voice of God shakes the wilderness.'

The voice of God is powerful. In Psalm 29:8 it says, “The voice of God shakes the wilderness.”  Or in another version it says it “shakes the barren places.”  If you look in the gospels, what’s super interesting is that you only see Jesus encountering the spoken word of the Father two times, and both times it is affirming His identity.

One is at His baptism at the River Jordan, where He is baptized by John the Baptist. The Father’s voice comes from out of heaven saying, “This is my beloved Son in whom I’m well pleased.”  And the second time is on the Mount of Transfiguration with Peter, James and John, and Moses and Elijah show up, and the Father speaks out of heaven. He said, “This is my Son in whom I’m well pleased.”  Again, He affirms His identity.

And what’s interesting is that those two times were enough to affirm Jesus throughout His ministry. What we see in the gospels is only two times that He heard the voice of the Father.  A lot of times I tend to get into places that I shouldn’t be either in my head or in my actions when I forget the voice of the Father. And so I want to give you two questions that you can ask God today to help you reconnect to the voice of the Father. The first question is this, “God, how are you?” Make it relational. The first time I ask God that He said, “Tim, I’m doing fantastic.”  And I was really surprised to hear a response and I decided to follow up with this question, “God, why are you fantastic?”  And He said, “Because I get to live inside of you today.”  That blew my mind, that blessed my heart. And the other question I want to give you to ask God is this, “God, is there anything I need to hear from you today?”  When you do that, you open yourself up to allow God to correct you, to encourage you, to pull you out of a place maybe in your actions or your thinking that you shouldn’t be.

And so this is the power of God’s voice to shake the wilderness in our life. And so I just want to pray for you to have encounters with God’s voice today. So Jesus, I just thank you for whoever’s watching this. And Lord, I ask that your voice out of heaven would affirm them and you would speak to them as a Father today, and that they would be encouraged, blessed, and that the wilderness around them would be shaken by your voice. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
