We’ve all heard Jesus talk about the fact that He is the vine and we are the fruit. So I’m going to read to you from John 15:5 in the Amplified version, and Jesus is talking and He says, “I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever lives in me and I in him bears much abundant fruit,” right? So Jesus is talking to us about the fact that as we’re in Him, He’s the vine, we’re the branches and we get to bear fruit.
I was talking to a friend of mine the other day who’s been a long-term missionary in Africa, and the Lord had her come out of the missions field for a year, and she’d just recently gone back. So I connected with her for the first time since she’s been back and she had, you know, expected things to look a certain way. She’d left a year ago and what are things going to look like when she comes back? But she sat looking at me and she said, “Lisa, the most amazing things have happened.” She said, “I left somebody in charge and I left them praying with the kids, but they’d always, the kids are little and they’d always fidget and they couldn’t take communion properly. And, I expected that it would’ve gotten worse.” But she said, “I walked in the first morning and this woman started praying and all the kids were sitting quietly with their head in their hands praying and completely quiet in the place.” She said she was totally amazed by the fruit that had happened from the seed that she had sown a year ago.
And so we got to celebrate this really practical example of what Jesus meant when He said that when you sow great seed, you can expect great fruit. Because not only had she sown into her colleague’s life and her colleague had seen fruit in her own life, plus in the kids’ life, plus in the ministry, but she had also sown fruit into the kids’ lives, and they were completely transformed just in the space of a year.
So you can know that as you stay connected to Jesus and you say to Him, “Lord, how do I get to sow great seed into the people in front of me today?” As you do that, He will guarantee that there will be great fruit that you’ll get to see down the line.
Lord, thank you so much for the opportunity of being able to sow seed with you and to see you bring the harvest from it, to see the fruit on the other side. It is so good to know that everything we do each day as we sow seed, gets to affect somebody’s life for the good news of you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
