If we hope in the living God, not only is He the source, but when the waters are poured out, they’re not lost.

Hello, GOD TV viewers. My name is Harvey Katz. Welcome back and we’re going to look today at Jeremiah 2:13, and Jeremiah’s prophesying to the people. He says this: “For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain living waters, and hewed themselves cisterns, broken cisterns that can hold no water.” So, here we see God says, “I’m the source of life.”  Water in a desert climate is life. There’s no water, there’s no life. And He’s saying that, you’ve turned away. I’m the source of life. I give you life and you’ve turned to things that cannot hold the water. These were the idols, these were everything else that they were trying to fill their lives with, just like people today. They fill their lives with money, possessions, success, but those are broken things and they won’t hold the water.

And the picture of water comes from 2 Samuel 14:14, where the woman of Tekoah said to David that life is like water poured on the ground. Once it’s gone, you can’t get it back. And that’s like hope. Hope that is poured on the ground is dissipated and it’s lost. The word for ‘hope’, mikveh, is one of the words where we get our word for a cistern.

So, if we hope in the living God, not only is He the source, but when the waters are poured out, they’re not lost. God is our mikveh. He is the one that holds the source of our living waters, and it’s through faith in His son, Yeshua, Jesus: I am the bread of life, I am the living waters. He who believes in me, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. If you’ve never received Yeshua, you can find hope and eternal life through faith in Him.

May we pray. Father, God, we thank you, that you sent your Son, Jesus, Yeshua, as the hope and source of living waters. Through His death and resurrection, we can put our trust in Him and ask Him to come into our life and forgive us of our sins, and know that we have that hope of eternal life. We pray this in Yeshua’s name. Amen.
