Hello, my name is Sonny Jaynes. I want to welcome you to God Today. I have been a pastor and a teacher for over 40 years. I’d like to share some thoughts with you today to encourage you in your walk with the Lord.
Some years ago, I was in charge of a ministry in Houston, TX. We had houses for men and women and I was running a coffee house on Friday and Saturday evenings. We were also working with the Houston Police Department in the juvenile area. Needless to say, we were very busy. While driving home from work one day, I was thinking of all the good things we were doing for God and to tell the truth, I was thinking pretty good about myself. I then heard that familiar voice from the Holy Spirit and He said, “Sonny, you see that man walking down the street?” I turned my head to look out the window, and I did see a man walking on the sidewalk along the highway. The Holy Spirit then said, “You know, Sonny. I love that man just as much as I love you, and He doesn’t even know me.” Then the Holy Spirit said, “Sonny, it’s not all the things you do for me that makes me love you. I love you anyway. I just want to spend time with you.” He then reminded me of the scripture in Isaiah 30, For He says, “In returning and rest you shall be saved. In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”
Friend, I want to encourage you today. It’s not how busy you are for the Lord that makes Him love you. He loves you anyway. I know there were times when I would struggle with whether or not I was doing enough for Him to love me. Frequently God has assured me, that even while I was yet a sinner, He loved me enough to die for me. If you are struggling today, thinking that you just can’t do enough to please God, take these words as an encouragement. God just wants to spend time with you.
Let me pray for you. Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray for those listening to this devotional today. Would you give them the power, God, would you give them the fresh revelation of how much you love them, Lord, even while they are yet a sinner? In Jesus’ name. Amen.
