Hi, my name is Chris Overstreet with Bethel Church and Compassion To Action and you are watching God Today.
Today I wanted to talk to you about the value of the word of God. It says in Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is living and powerful. Sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the vision of soul and spirit, and joints and marrow.” The word of God is the discerner of the hearts and also our minds. The word of God is living and powerful.
I have a wonderful daughter. Her name is Brielle. I remember one night I was putting my daughter down for bed and as I was putting her down, she looked at me and said, “Daddy?”. She is 2.5 years old. She said, “Daddy, you read your bible.” She looked at me and said, “Daddy, you read your bible.” I believe as my daughter was speaking to me, my daughter was also speaking to this generation. You need to read your bible. Why? Because in the word of God is a solid foundation.
The word of God is a rock. The word of God is Jesus Christ. You can’t build your life on material things. You cannot build your life on things that are going to perish. The thing that will never perish is God’s word. When you get into the word of God, you discover who you are, whose you are, and what you have been created to do. That is why it is so important for us as a young generation to know the word of God. It is the most valuable substance in the world. To dive into what God thinks about you is essential. The devil is out to kill, steal, and destroy. You need to know the might manuscripts of heaven over your life. Jesus Christ is the author and finisher of your faith. He is the one that wrote about your life. When you discover the Word of God, you discover, “Oh my gosh! That’s what He thinks about me! Oh my gosh! That’s what He has called me to do. Oh my goodness, look at all these promises!” I believe that God, right now, is releasing a hunger in the Spirit to get into the word of God.
Here is what God is saying, “Put your phones down. Get off Facebook for awhile. Pick up your bible and read the word of the Lord.” Because when you get into the word you are able to watch over your heart. You will discover in Proverbs how it says, “Watch over your heart with all diligence. For out of it spring the of life.” When you know the word of God, what you realize is that God only has the best for you.
I want to pray for you right now. I want to pray for you to have unshakeable, unmovable faith that comes from the word of God. Lord, I am praying right now for everyone who is watching, Lord, for a hunger and the appetite of the word of God. I pray right now for a hunger to come inside of them. That they would go into their room, shut the door, and say, “Lord Jesus, I want to discover who you are, through your word.” Lord, I pray your word be manifested in their life. Encounter them to become an encounter. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
