Climb The Higher Rock

You are either climbing higher and reaching towards the things of God or you are sinking in the muck of your flesh.

Hello, my friends.  I am Troy Brewer. I am the pastor of Open Door Church in Burleson, TX.  I say, “Welcome to God Today!” You know, I have never been anything but a flatlander my entire life.  But, I tell you, I sure do love mountains. I am amazed by how big some of them are. Mt. Rainier in Washington state is 14,410 feet tall and it is the tallest peak in the lower 48 American states.  Of course, the tallest mountain on all of planet Earth is beautiful Mt. Everest at 29,029 feet above sea level. On the border of Nepal and Tibet, and yes I have actually been there and loved to tell the tale.  That is for another day.

God loves mountains.  Maybe it is because He is called “The Most High”.  There are some high places in the Lord that few people are up to the challenge of climbing.  These places are reserved for a very elite few. People who are willing to get up off the couch and be the people God almighty has called them to be.  All of us as people of God, need to be able to find these places in Christ Jesus. Say, “Give me that mountain.” You have a God-given, very spiritual ability to get up there and just like the psalmist cried out for it.  He said this, “Hear my cry, oh God. Listen to my prayer. From the ends of the Earth I call to you whenever my heart is faint.” Then he says, “Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” That is Psalm 61.

See, here is the bottom line.  You cannot sin still. You are either climbing higher and reaching towards the things of God or you are sinking in the muck of your flesh and the mire of this world.  There is only forward and there is only backward. There is no safe place in the middle. There is no rest period. There is no taking a break. You never arrive at your destination in Christ Jesus when you are still here on the planet Earth.  Again, if you are not going forward, I promise you that you are in a backward slide. God after the rock that is higher than I, as the psalmist said. Find your true identity and your calling in the Kingdom.

The days are short.  God has saved the best of every bloodline for times like this.  I am talking about you. Let’s pray. Father, I pray, God in the might name of king Jesus. God, give us the grace, give us courage, give us power, sir to say, “Give me that mountain.”  I pray, Father God sir, that we would not be overwhelmed by how big these things are. Lord God Almighty, I pray, God, you would make our feet like the feet of a deer and lead us in higher places.  In Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amen.

Alright, my friends.  That is all the time I have for today.  I am Troy Brewer. I call you the head and not the tail, above and not beneath, and highly favored of the Lord.
