How’s your sleep been lately? I know it seems like a weird question for me to ask you, but I want to just encourage you that the Bible says in Psalm 127:2 that, “If God doesn’t build the house, the builders only build shacks. If God doesn’t guard the city, the night watchman might as well nap. It’s useless to rise early and go to bed late and work your worried fingers to the bone. Don’t you know he enjoys giving rest to those he loves?”

I have so often come across this problem in my life where I forget that rest is essential to me being the person that God created me to be. So if you struggle with rest, maybe a little bit like I do, I want to encourage you today. It is okay for you to take a break. It is okay for you to say no to something that is too taxing to you right now. And it is okay for you to lean into the abundant overflowing well of rest that God has stored up for you. He wants to minister to you in your rest, and cause you to grow from that rest in a way that you’ve never experienced before.

Jesus, I just thank you that rest was your idea. That even as you were creating the universe, that you took a break and rested to enjoy what you had done. God, I thank you that we can make time for rest. And we choose today to not only work from rest, but to make time to connect with you in intimacy, from a place of peace. Jesus, I thank you that your presence is with us all day, every day. And we choose to acknowledge you today and work and live from the rest of God, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
