One of the first things that I’ve found you got to do to get a life on purpose, adventurously, is to set your focus on the future.

Good morning, I’m Doug Osness and this is God Today.  I want to talk to you about living a life adventurously on purpose.  It comes out of Romans chapter 8, starting at about verse 12.  It is out of the Message translation.  Let me read it for you, 12-14 says, “So, don’t you see? That we don’t owe this old ‘do it yourself’ life one red cent.  There is nothing in it for us. Nothing at all. The best thing to do is to give it a decent burial and get on with your new life. God’s Spirit beckons. There are things to do and places to go.”

One of the first things that I’ve found you got to do to get a life on purpose, adventurously, is to set your focus on the future.  So, a great question to ask is, “What’s been holding me back from all Papa God has for me?”  What we’ve got to think about, and this passage talks about what Christ did on the cross for us.  He died to redeem us, to cover the past. The old man is dead, and gone, and buried.  Now, if you’re like me though, the problem is, I keep wanting to dig up the dead man.  So, I keep reminding myself about all the shortcomings, and the defaults, and the negative thinking I’ve had. I’m digging up the old, dead man. That just doesn’t work. The Spirit is beckoning us to more. There are places to go and things to do on His behalf.

So, you might want to do this as a prophetic act today. Why don’t you make a list of all those negative tapes that run through your head, get it on paper, get it all out there? Read it. Then go bury it. Literally, go bury it in the backyard. Or, if you need to go upstairs, read the list for one last time, tear it up, throw it in the toilet, and flush it away.  Bury the old, dead man, finally.  That’s the thing that’ll make a difference.

So, I want to pray for you for that this morning.  Lord, I just pray for blessing and strength, and your changing of the tapes in anybody’s head who is listening to this today.  Get the old, dead man, gone, buried, done, and put away with. And the Holy Spirit come and beckon us on, let them know what is next and what’s more. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
