It will keep you from error, it will keep you from evil, it will keep you from destruction. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly.

This is Dr. Michael Brown from Ask Dr. Brown Ministries and you are watching God Today.  When you go through the scriptures, you find that common theme and that is the importance of having the Word of God in our heart, in our mind, and on our lips.  In Joshua 1:8, God tells Joshua not to let this book of teachings, the book of Torah in Hebrew, “Don’t let it depart from your lips but meditate on it day and night.  This way you can do what is written, then you will be blessed and successful in doing the will of God.”

So Hebrew for “meditate” is not just to think about, but to recite, to repeat.  We are told in Proverbs 4:20-22, “Don’t let the words of God out of your sight.  Store them up in your heart because they will bring healing and they will bring life.”  We get into the New Testament, we read in John 15:7, “Jesus said, ‘If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ask what you will and it will be done for you.’”  It reminds me of the picture of the man in Psalm 1, where we are told, “His delight is in the teaching of the Lord, the Torah of the Lord.  And in His teaching, in His law, he meditates day and night.”

It is having the Word in our hearts, on our mouths, in our minds, reciting it, repeating it, speaking it.  And then Paul writes in Colossians 3, “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly.” Friend, you want your life to be blessed, you want your life to bear fruit, you want to resemble Jesus more and more.  You want to shine and make an impact for the King.  You want to have the smile of God in your life.  Here is the big key.  Get the Word in your heart, in your mind.  Read it, meditate on it, repeat it, recite it.  Think about it.  Memorize it.  Say it. Every way you can take it in.  Reading, listening to it, writing it out, repeating it.  As that is done, it will deposit more and more deeply within you.  You just think of the roots of a tree going down deep and spreading wide.  That will prude the nourishment and strength for your life.  It will keep you from error, it will keep you from evil, it will keep you from destruction.  Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly.

Can I pray for you?  Father, we live in a very distracting day.  We live in a day where so many things are pulling for our attention and calling us to go this way and that way.  I pray, Father, that each one watching right now would have increased hunger and desire for your Word.  We would spend more time in a quality way taking in your Word, that the obstacles, be they with time, be they with attention, be they with memory.  That those would be removed, Lord, and that the Word, your Word, would dwell richly within your people so that they would grow and bear much fruit.  I ask it in Jesus’ name.  Amen.  This is Dr. Michael Brown and you have been watching God Today.
