Hi, my name is Brittany Thompson, and I’m one of the contributors here at God TV, with Relentless Woman, and I want to talk to you today about demystifying prophecy. So often prophecy can feel weird and foreign and overwhelming to us, but the reality is, is that prophecy is just one simple thing: God speaking, that’s it. And good news, He likes to talk and He talks every day to you. So I want to talk to you today about some ways that you can actually access the keys of prophecy in your life, and that you can actually share prophetic words with people. Yes, you, you can do it. Everyone can prophesy; I promise, it’s in the Bible.
All right, so the first key for prophecy is knowing timing. Sometimes the Lord shares things with us because we’re His friends and He loves to tell us things. But the reality is, is that sometimes the timing of the word isn’t just right. So you need to ask the Lord the timing of what He’s saying. So when you’re asking the Lord, “What are you saying?” ask Him, “What are you saying right now for this person? And how can I share it with them?” Because there have been times when I’ve gotten prophetic words for people, years in advance of when they actually needed to hear them. But then when they came to me and they said, “Hey, this is the season I’m in,” I knew the Lord was saying, “This is the time for you to actually release that word over them.” The good news is, is that during that time, you think, why would the Lord share something with me like a year or two years in advance of when someone needs to hear it? So that you can pray for them, so that you can actually pray for the process of God, because you can’t determine their process with God, God can’t even determine their process sometimes. They are the only people that are in control of their process, because they’re the only people that are in charge of their obedience. So do not share a word out of timing, make sure that you’re in timing with the Lord.
The second thing that you want to make sure that you do when you share a prophetic word, is that it’s encouraging. The Lord never wants to discourage us from our callings. It doesn’t mean that the word won’t be challenging or that it may not point out something that needs a little bit of work or a little bit of TLC. But when you share it with them, be sure that you love that person and that you don’t have any bitterness or resentment that’s built up in your heart that you’re trying to share a prophetic word, because if you are trying to share that prophetic word with somebody and you have bitterness and resentment in your heart from issues that you personally haven’t worked out with them, that can taint the word that God actually gave you. So be sure to stay in good relational standing with your brothers and sisters so that when you go to share a prophetic word with them, it comes across with the voice of the Lord and not with the voice of discouragement.
The third thing that you can do when you want to access the keys of prophecy, remember that it’s all about connection. It’s a conversation with God. It’s not one sided. You can ask the Lord, “What are you saying? Where are you right now? What are you doing? How can I help you? How can I access your presence?” And even when the Lord shares a word with you, you can ask Him, “Hey, who is this word for?” Right? If, if you don’t know who it’s for, say, “Who is this word for? Or who should I share this with?” Be patient on that timing because the Lord is actually divinely letting you know things in advance of them happening to prepare you as a person.
I want to just encourage you today. If you’re looking to actually increase prophecy in your life, I want to encourage you to declare over yourself every single day, “I am a friend of God and I hear His voice clearly.” That was one thing that I started doing when I really wanted to grow in the gift of prophecy in my life, is that I actually began to say that over myself every day, and the power and the impact that came from that single statement every single day is immeasurable in my life. So say that over yourself every day in the mirror, “I am a friend of God and I hear His voice clearly,” and watch how it changes.
Let’s pray together. God, I thank you so much that you love to talk to us, that you love to tell us what’s on your heart and that you love to give us insight. Father, I pray that today that we would be unblocked and that would be unhindered and there would be no barriers between you and between us that we would be able to hear your voice clearly, deeply, and understand exactly what you’re saying. Father, we promise to be patient and encouraging and to wait for your timing in all things in prophecy, God. We thank you, God, that you speak to us and that we’re your friends, Amen.
