Do you struggle with evangelizing? I had never gone on a mission trip and recently I had the opportunity to go to New York. I was so scared. My church was planning a trip and I was broke. I was a college student and didn’t really think I had much to give, because it made me uncomfortable to talk to people about God. I want to share with you today that it’s so not about what we can do, but about what God has already done.
I gathered up the funds, I went on this mission trip, and I was standing on the street in Flatbush, New York, surrounded by people walking by completely and uninterested in what our group was doing or what we had to say. And we were playing worship music and kind of setting an atmosphere.
I remember standing there just saying, “Lord, whatever you want me to do, whoever I meant to speak with tonight, I’m just going to trust that you bring them to me, or that it’s very clear who I should approach, because I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable.” I was just so worried about what other people were thinking of me. As I stood there, suddenly a woman came up to me very quickly and fell into my arms, and she whispered in my ear, “Something told me to come here.” She had heard the worship music from blocks away and she ran and she fell into my arms, and I got to pray with her and minister to her and share with her the love of God.
And I just want to encourage you, if you have the opportunity to go share the Gospel with people, do not fear. God has divine appointments set up. It is not about what you can muster up or make happen in a moment, and it’s completely about all of His children that He sees and He loves, and He is pursuing more than we could ever pursue.
So I just pray and I bless you, I bless your hands and your heart, that it be filled with the love of God and that you have a divine setup like I did in New York.
