If you have given your life to Jesus, you are no longer a sinner. 1 John 3:6 says, “No one who abides in Him keeps on sinning. No one who keeps on sinning has either seen Him or known Him.” And then it says in 1 John 3:8, “Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.” So if you are of Christ and you are in Christ, you are not of the devil, so you actually don’t have a propensity to sin. You have a propensity to be holy. You have a propensity to be pure.
It says in verse nine, “No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep sinning, because he has been born of God.” And earlier in 1 John, it talks about if you sin, not when you sin. So I want to challenge you today. Don’t think about trying not to sin. Think about your righteousness in Christ. We are righteous because of Christ, because of our faith in Him.
So think of yourself today more as a priest and more as a child of God than as a sinner. Don’t walk around saying, “Oh, I’m just a sinner saved by grace.” No. Jesus paid the highest price for you to walk in holiness. And so I pray over your heart right now, that your heart would receive the truth about who you are in Jesus.
Jesus poured out His blood for you, and He raised you up and seated you with Him in heavenly places beside the Father. So, be encouraged today and know who you are in Christ. You are no longer a sinner, but you are righteous in Him. Amen.
